Kim Jong-Il's monster movie

Pulgasari is set in feudal Korea where a rebellion is threatening an evil king. Preparing for battle, the king steals iron implements from the peasants so he can make arms to use against them. In the process he imprisons and starves to death a blacksmith, whose last creation is Pugasari, an iron-eating creature brought to life by the blood of the blacksmith's daughter. Together with the peasants, this monstrous Godzilla-like creature overthrows the evil king.

"Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il was known as a cinephile, and, not content with merely collecting old reels, he also had desires to produce some movies of his own – so much so that he had South Korean director Sang-ok Shin kidnapped, brought to North Korea, and forced to make movies. Pulgasari is one of the results, a blatant rip-off of Japanese monster movies. Kim Jong-Il tried to market it unsuccessfully abroad in the early 90s.

The following is a "sizzler reel" of highlights, though the entire movie can be found here: Pulgasari 불가사리 part 1 with english subtitles
